Major Breakthrough!
All of you who know Pierce know that he is not a good eater. He is a committed vegetarian and is skeptical of all but a few foods (thus his thin frame!). Well, tonight I made an enchilada casserole for dinner: corn tortillas layered with green enchilada sauce, cheese, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and shredded chicken. As I was pulling it out of the oven (it smelled so good!), it occurred to me that neither of my kids were going to go for this for dinner and I hadn't really planned a back up... Oh well, it was 6:20 and everyone was hungry, so I slopped it on their plates, sat them down and went back into the kitchen to serve mine and Brett's. When I got back into the dining room I saw two children quietly eating their enchilada dinner with their forks. No complaining, no "What's this?," just quiet eating. I could not believe it. When Brett got to the table I told him we were going to have to say the blessing AFTER dinner because I did not want to disturb the beautiful sight of both kids eating so happily something I never thought they would eat. He agreed! Pierce and Sydney both had two servings and Pierce even ate the chicken in it. It was so awesome I almost cried!

Father Daughter Day

Brett told Sydney this week that he wanted to go out and do something special with her this weekend for some father-daughter time. They decided to go to a local painting studio ("The Polka Dot Palette") after her ballet class this morning to paint a picture. Luckily the image chosen for today's class was a fairy! Perfect for Sydney. We weren't sure how she'd do since the class was 2 hours and Sydney had never done anything like that before, but she did an amazing job on her painting! I could not believe a 4-yr old (ok, almost 5) did this by herself. Brett said that he painted the eyelashes and eyes and put white circles around all the bubbles. Everything else was Sydney, even her name and the date at the bottom are her handwriting! Wow! I love it! I think it has a spot waiting to hang in the playroom.
